The Swelling of Gelatin and the Volume of Surrounding Solution
نویسندگان
چکیده
The swelling of isoelectric gelatin added to various volumes of acid of different concentration at 5 degrees C. has been determined. The swelling is determined only by the concentration of the supernatant solution at equilibrium and is independent of the volume of acid. Similar experiments with unpurified gelatin show that in this case, owing to the presence of neutral salts the swelling is a function of the volume as well as the concentration of acid. Both results are predicted by the Procter-Wilson-Loeb theory of the swelling of gelatin.

Simulation of Drug Concentration Changes in Swollen Hydrogels with Different Compounds of Chitosan and Gelatin Based on PVA
Introduction: Mathematical modeling of drug release is one of the ways to improve the rate of drug diffusion and infiltration in swollen hydrogel based systems. Using this method can provide a better understanding of the mechanisms of drug control and its release. Hydrogels are a swollen biomaterial that needs to be controlled for use in drug release. Purpose and methodology: In this study, fiv...
متن کاملSynthesis, characterization and swelling behavior investigation of gelatin-g-Poly(Acrylic Acid-co-Itaconic Acid)
A novel pH-responsive superabsorbent hydrogel based on gelatin was prepared through crosslinking copolymerization of poly (acrylic acid) and poly (itaconic acid). The copolymerization conditions including monomers, initiator, gelatin and crosslinker concentration, reaction temperature, and neutralization percent were systematically optimized to achieve a hydrogel with swelling capacity as high ...
متن کاملSynthesis and Swelling Behavior of Gelatin-Based Hydrogel Nanocomposites
In this work, a series of hydrogel nanocomposites were prepared by grafting acrylic acid and acrylamide on gelatin in the presence of Na-montmorillonite (Na-MMT) nanoparticles. The characterizations of hydrogel nanocomposites were examined by swelling experiments, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-Ray diffraction (XRD) patterns and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Scanning ele...

Production and characterization of soft cross-linked gelatin sponge by using glutaraldehyde for blood hemostasis application, is the goal of this study. Biodegradable hydrogels were prepared through crosslinking of gelatin with glutaraldehyde followed by freeze drying. The effects of gelatin concentration, amount of crosslink agent and freeze drying temperature on mechanical properties and...
متن کاملT H E Swelling Pressure of Gelatin and the Mechanism of Swelling in Water and Neutral Salt Solutions. by John H. Northrop
The swelling of gelatin when placed in aqueous solution may be readily separated into three types. The swelling in acid or in alkali and the effect of neutral salts on this swelling have been shown by the work of Procter and Wilson, ~ and Loeb ~ to be due to the osmotic pressure of the ions of the electrolyte, in accordance with the Donnan equilibrium. The initial swelling of dry gelatin in wat...
